Job Description : Purpose of Role Bioversity is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to provide general scientific and logistics support to the Genetic Resources Theme, part of Bioversity's Commodities Systems and Genetic Resources Programme. Key responsibilities Located in Bioversity's office in Montpellier, France, under the supervision of the Genetic Resources Conservation and Use Theme Leader and in consultation with the broader genetic resources community, the incumbent will: • Liaise with partners for data gathering and compilation of ongoing projects; • Compile data and scientific background information for the preparation of project reports; • Assist with data entry into the Musa Germplasm Information System (MGIS); • Assist in the writing of scientific documents and contribute to different types of publications; • Assist in the preparation of presentations to meetings and conferences; • Conduct literature and database review of publications involving commodities germplasm; • Assist in writing regular updates on Musa genetic resources activities and post news on MusaNet website; • Ensure regular contacts with the Musa collection curators to receive updated and quality data; • Assist in the development of project proposals; • Provide general support to Bioversity's involvement in Genetic Resources related CGIAR Research Programmes as required; • Provide general support to the MusaNet thematic groups; • Contribute in other ways to the genetic resources research activities of Bioversity and its Commodities Programme, as needed.

Minimum Qualification & Experience : Essential qualifications & competencies • Relevant university degree in agricultural, biological sciences or equivalent. • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience. • Proficiency in relevant software packages (Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point) and knowledge of websites content management and update maintenance. • Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken. Desirable qualifications and competencies • Previous research experience with banana or other tropical crops' germplasm conservation and use. • Experience in working in an international working environment, including developing countries. • Working knowledge of French, Spanish or another major international language.

Skills & abilities : • Well developed ability to analyze scientific data and conduct meta-analysis; • Well-developed synthesizing skills with the ability to write clear and concise scientific documents. • Well-developed administrative, personal organization and priority-setting skills. • Strong interpersonal, communications and teamwork skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people of different cultural and national backgrounds. • Demonstrable adaptability and flexibility. • Ability to work with a high degree of independence within assigned areas complemented by sound judgment and initiative.

Terms & Conditions : This is a locally recruited position, based in Montpellier, France. The salary is level 5, in a scale of eight levels, with level 8 being the highest. The salary range starts from Euro 33,639 per annum. The remuneration package includes a competitive salary, leave provisions medical and life insurance, and non-contributory retirement fund. All benefits are denominated and paid in EURO. As this is a locally recruited position, relocation costs are not covered. The salary is exempt from French income tax (an internal taxation is applied). The initial contract will be for a period of two years subject to a probationary period of twelve months. The contract is renewable, contingent upon continuous relevance of the position, availability of funding and satisfactory performance.
