The Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL is a part of the ETH domain. Our research group resource analysis explores recent state as well as future development of forests and its services. For the project „Timber mobilization strategies for Swiss forests" in the national research program NFP66 we are offering a
PostDoc in forest modeling
You define innovative forest management scenarios to mobilize timber and translate those rules into the empirical single-tree model MASSIMO. You prepare further data to revise the calibration and validation of the management module. Moreover, you integrate the revised management module into the existing model environment and support the simulation of scenarios for the next 100 years taking into account climate change (IPCC SRES scenarios). You publish your results in scientific journals.
You have a PhD in biology, environmental or forest sciences and sound knowledge in silviculture and forest management. You have good knowledge in applied statistics (SAS or R) and long-term experience in modeling and programming. Practice in scientific publishing is required, German knowledge is an asset. You are a creative team-player who works independently.
