Master opportunity in UCD

UCD Forestry would like to recruit a Masters candidate to conduct research in the role of forests in the provision of recreation and in promoting human health and well-being. The current economic valuation methods for assessing the value of these services will be reviewed with the aim of providing an assessment of the monetary value for these services in the Irish context. This research is part of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine-funded project "Valuing the Ecosystem Services of Forests in Ireland" (the ECOVALUE project).

Preferred Selection Criteria
A Bachelor's degree in any of the following disciplines: forestry or related field, land-use management, environmental economics. Candidates should have evidence of strength in quantitative analysis. Experience in health economics would be desirable.
The successful candidate should be capable of independent research and team work. Very good oral and written communication skills in English are mandatory. A clean driving licence is desirable.
We offer
The Masters position is available for 1.5 years. Work should commence as soon as possible but no later than 1 January 2013. The (tax-free) scholarship will be € 16000 per year and EU-level tuition fees are paid by the project (up to € 6000). The successful candidate will be registered for the Masters degree with University College Dublin. The research should result in the successful completion of a Masters thesis in 1.5 years.

The application deadline is 31 December 2012. Applications from non-EU citizens should include evidence of access to funding to pay the difference in the higher tuition fees (€ 11600 in 2011/12).
