Edinburgh: GIS Analyst for Land Use Applications
Ecometrica Ltd is recruiting a GIS Analyst to work as part of a small multi-disciplinary team consisting of land use, ecology, biodiversity and remote sensing experts based in Edinburgh, UK. This position offers a unique and exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, pro-active candidate with expertise in GIS and/or remote sensing for land use applications. Your duties and responsibilities will be focussed on GIS analysis for a range of land use-related projects. You will also form part of a dynamic team that is developing Ecometrica’s online mapping platform, Our Ecosystem.
We are seeking a solution-driven analyst who can translate client needs into a realistic processing chain that includes the acquisition, pre-processing, editing and analyses of relevant digital data in a GIS to produce value-added information layers. You should have the ability to critically judge the accuracy and usefulness of external datasets. You should be able to work accurately under pressure, both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team and have the skill and interest to communicate GIS terms and processing concepts to a non-technical audience.
We are offering a salary in the range £25K – £28K, dependent on your level of experience.
Minimum requirements:
- Masters degree or similar postgraduate qualification or at least 2 years’ experience in GIS and/or remote sensing analysis
- Proficiency in ArcGIS (or similar) software
- Solid understanding of land use/ecology/vegetation science
- Good interpersonal and written communication skills
- Fluent English language speaker
- Eligible to work in the UK
Skills and knowledge that are seen as an additional advantage:
- Knowledge of remote sensing data and image processing methods
- Experience with GDAL, GRASS or similar open source GIS software
- Python programming skills
- Knowledge of methods for spatial statistics
- Knowledge of GIS-based change analysis
- A second language, e.g. Spanish, Portuguese or French
