The Group of Grassland Sciences (Prof. Nina Buchmann) seeks a
Ph.D. student in “Ecology & Policy” (60%)
Research within the project “Environmental Controls on Forest Growth in Switzerland” with focus on growth estimates of Swiss forests using inventories, stem diameter bands, point-dendrometers and eddy flux stations. Project will be carried out in close collaboration with the Swiss Federal Office of the Environment (FOEN). A joint green paper will be written. Tasks include data compilation and quality check, identification of growth trends and responses to extreme events, presentation of results nationally and internationally to science & policy stakeholders. Already installed dendrometers will be maintained and data analyzed. The research will be carried out within a 3-year project, starting as soon as possible.
Dynamic, reliable and motivated student with M.Sc./Diploma in plant ecophysiology, ecology, forest management, environmental sciences or related disciplines. Strong interest in process- and system-oriented research as well as in policy relevance of science. Experiences and skills in working with large data sets as well as technical skills for field work are highly beneficial. Driving license is required. Teamwork within group and with project partners requires English and German language skills. Participation in Ph.D. Graduate School “Plant Sciences and Policy” (www.plantscience.ethz.ch/ education/science_policy) is mandatory.
