The Department of Forest Resource Management conducts education and research in the fields of remote sensing, forest inventory and empirical ecosystem modeling, mathematical statistics, forest management planning, forest rural studies and international forestry. Activities are focused on combining research in these areas in interdisciplinary projects, thereby providing unique opportunities to develop the overall concept for the sustainable use of natural resources. The Department is also responsible for the implementation of environmental monitoring programs, such as the Swedish National Forest Inventory, National Inventory of Landscapes in Sweden and Terrestrial Habitat Monitoring. In total, we are about 110 employees. Please visit our websitewww.slu.se/SRH.
We are now looking for a person with a particular interest in forest management planning and water issues for a postdoctoral position. The task is to develop decision support tools in forest management planning that include considerations of the impact of forestry on water quality. These new tools will help decision makers to make trade-offs between timber production and water quality. The decision support tools should rely on the model framework and user interface developed within the Heureka model for terrestrial ecosystems which has been developed at SLU and Skogforsk and is now being implemented in the Swedish forest sector, see www.slu.se/SHa.
The Postdoc will be linked to the research program ForWater. The overall aim of ForWater is to create a deeper understanding of how changes in climate and forestry may interact negatively on the water quality in our lakes and streams. The position as Postdoc is fully funded for two years and will be located in the Department of Forest Resource Management.
Qualifications:
Applicants should have a PhD in forest management or ecology. Knowledge of mathematical programming, such as linear programming, is considered an additional qualification. Good oral and writing capability in English, as well as good analytical and problem solving skills are necessary. Great emphasis is placed on the ability to work independently. The selection of candidates will be based on the written application including documented qualifications, dissertation work, personal references, sufficient knowledge of English and an interview.
